Invitation to the SIGN-HUB final event March 25-26

Bijgewerkt: mei 22

Dear members of the Association of Dutch SL interpreters, We are pleased to invite you to the SIGN-HUB project final event “All hands on deck! Sign languages and Deaf communities” that will take place on March 25-26. During the past 4 years, the 10 institutions from seven countries participating in the SIGN-HUB research project, which was funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, have created a sign language resource hub. SIGN-HUB is now a digital platform that hosts digital grammars of six sign languages, an interactive digital atlas of linguistic structures of the world's sign languages, online sign language assessment instruments for education and clinical intervention and a digital archive of life narratives by elderly signers. In the SIGN-HUB final event, open to stakeholders and policy makers, we will present the outcome of our research project and discuss with three panels of internationally renowned experts the right to sign language acquisition and education, the importance of Deaf memories as part of collective memories and the need for sign language research. You can find the detailed programme of the event attached to this email. Other practical information about the SIGN-HUB final event can be found here. We would be truly honoured if you could join us for this event. We are convinced that meetings like this should help bridge the gap between science and society. We are committed to the idea that linguistic research like the one we have carried out must contribute in the end to guaranteeing full participation of Deaf signing citizens in public life in Europe and beyond. We believe this meeting is an excellent opportunity for all the relevant agents to meet and exchange expertise and to enhance cooperation among too often isolated domains. In case you can accept this invitation, we would be grateful if you could confirm your attendance at sign-hub@upf.edu. Note that the whole event will be in English and International Sign. We very much look forward to your reply and hope to meet you in Barcelona next month. Yours, Josep Quer (SIGN-HUB Coordinator) and Carlo Cecchetto (WP2 coordinator) PS The event will be streamed live at this link.
